Legend has it that Bathsheba, wife of King David, bathed in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft. Legend has it that the surf covered white waters of Bathsheba, rich in minerals and life, is said to resemble Bathsheba's bath in both appearance and health giving value. This is the rugged east coast of Barbados, where visitors come to breathe the air, soak in the invigorating Bathsheba Pools and feel alive. NewEdgewater in Bathsheba is nestled among some of the most spectacular scenes in the island of Barbados.

On the western side of the hotel is the Joe's River and the 85-acre rain Joe's River Tropical Rain Forest. This Tropical Rain Forest rises to a height of 1,000 feet above sea level and offers what is often described as the most breathing views in Barbados. One can walk through the hills, gullies and plains of this Tropical Rain Forest and take pictures of the beautiful tropical trees; Fiscus, White Wood, Cabbage Palms, Mahogany and Bearded Fig Trees to name a few.

On the eastern side of the hotel was once the railway line. Barbados Railway used to carry sugar cane and passengers from the island's capital Bridgetown to Belleplaine, located a few miles up from the hotel, from 1881 to 1937 on this line. The story goes that the children of the owners of the hotel and their friends used to sit at the windows on this eastern side and throw small pebbles in the train carriages.

Also on the eastern side of the property is the Atlantic Ocean with its unusual coral formations, which were given names some years ago, the Sphinx, the Lion King, the Lion Queen, the Hitchhiker or One-Earred Rabbit, and the Traveller to name a few. On this side of the property, the calm Joe's River meets the roaring Atlantic Ocean. One can take a walk on this side up to The Cup and Saucer, built about 90 years ago and presents the ideal setting for an afternoon drink with that special person.

NewEdgewater's history dates back to the seventeen hundreds and went through several name changes, Tenby House, Tent Bay House, Edgewater Hotel and Edgewater Inn. Sometime in 1946 the property was purchased by one Mrs. Carter, who added the 12 rooms on the western side and in early 1947 changed the name from Tent Bay House to the Edgewater Hotel. Mrs. Carter was a musician and played the piano beautifully, legend has it that on a quite night one can still hear the strains of her piano playing. Another owner Mr. Bowers together with a local craft man built by hand all of the mahogany furniture in the hotel.

The present owners of this historic property have managed to incorporate the old with the new. Come and enjoy.
